It was announced Sephora-MUA-Turned-Instagram-Empress Amrezy had collaborated with American beauty brand Anastasia Beverly Hills for the second time, with a stellar black and gold glowing theme to promote the highlighter.
Amrezy was one of the very first makeup artists I had followed on Instagram all the way back in 2015. I’ve watched her grow, collaborate with such big names and her products consistently sellout in an instant. Just like its counterpart, Anastasia Beverly Hills had quickly grown into a household name. It soon broke into the market internationally, with makeup mavericks hovering over online retailers to get a piece of the cult-favourite contour kit and liquid lipsticks. It filled me with much confidence in the collaboration between two empowering cosmetic businesses, especially two I am so fond of.
The packaging comes in a small luxe suede-effect black box. It is adorned with metallic gold stars and the collaborative Anastasia Beverly Hills and Amrezy branding. The compact itself follows suit of its package with a jet-black shiny shell, round edges and emblazoned gold stars.
The formula of the pan cannot be defeated. It is one of the best formulas I have ever tried and instantly impressed me with how finely ground the highlighter is, whilst avoiding a powdery appearance on the skin. The wavy press on the pan in innovative and strong; I swatched the highlighter countless times and it still looked good as new.
As such, swatching the highlighter proved the product to be strongly pigmented and giving a glow to the high points of the face when applied without the need of a heavy hand. The shade is described as a “light brilliant gold” on the cosmetic brand’s website and many have linked similarities of the colour to the reminisced Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in the shade So Hollywood. I found, on olive-toned South Asian complexion, the Amrezy highlighter translated as a glowing champagne toned gold. It blends naturally to give a luminous finish. I found the product looks particularly gorgeous on deeper complexions and complements one another so well!
The highlighter is perfect for day and night. Whether you have a busy day at the office or if you’re dashing off to a suave evening, the highlighter can give you the payoff you are looking for. On its own, the product can give a natural and subtle daytime glow and can boost the dewy look with NYX Cosmetics’ Dewy Finish Setting Spray (an ultimate favourite of mine!) and is guaranteed to stay on, regardless of what the day brings you.
Spritz some MAC Cosmetics Fix+ Spray onto the brush and sweep it across the high points of your cheeks for a stronger and more prominent finish. The spray amplifies the luminosity of the highlighter whilst giving it a gorgeous wet-look and striking appearance.
The only drawback I found was the price of the product. Although you can get a lot of use from the 9g in the pan, at £29, it is slightly above the cost of the average highlighter carried by the brand. Due to its versatility and compatibility with a diverse range of complexions, I found the product can be a good investment to make whether you are a consumer purchasing for personal use or a makeup artist topping up their kit.
To conclude, I can most definitely envision this highlighter to be one of my favourite products I reach for when getting ready for the day. It is a collaboration not to be missed and this limited-edition highlighter is a must-have in your makeup bag.
